“Experiences During the 1966-67 Conflict in Indonesia”

When

May 8, 2024
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Special Wednesday lecture in May!
Except for the conflict referenced in the novel and Mel Gibson movie
The Year of Living Dangerously, not a lot of people have heard about what the Western Allies experienced as they fought against the Communists in Indonesia. Because he was there at the time, Dr. Joe Schwarz will tell us what it was like.

John J.H. “Joe” Schwarz, MD, FACS, lecturer in U-M’s Ford School of Public Policy, was mayor of his home town of Battle Creek where he has been in private practice for many years.  He served in Southeast Asia with the Navy and then with the CIA before completing his residency in otolaryngology at Harvard University. He also served in the Michigan Senate and then in Congress.  [Two of his many accomplishments include helping pass stem cell research and anti-gerrymandering constitutional amendments in Michigan.]
