SUMMARY:Finding a Cache of Historical Recipes
DESCRIPTION:Ann Arbor historian Susan Wineberg tells how a chance finding of a cache of cooking pamphlets led to the discovery of a Black cook’s personal scrapbook of recipes from the 1930s-1950s\, most of them hand-written.   She donated it to the University library\, and they’ve now been published by the University of Michigan Press as a book entitled “The Ella E. Hall Recipe Book”.  She’ll talk about her discovery\, donation\, and happiness that such a book—a window into the lives of Black cooks of the time—has been made available to the public. \nAdmission free\, donations appreciated.
