Finding a Cache of Historical Recipes
October 14 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Ann Arbor historian Susan Wineberg tells how a chance finding of a cache of cooking pamphlets led to the discovery of a Black cook’s personal scrapbook of recipes from the 1930s-1950s, most of them hand-written. She donated it to the University library, and they’ve now been published by the University of Michigan Press as a book entitled “The Ella E. Hall Recipe Book”. She’ll talk about her discovery, donation, and happiness that such a book—a window into the lives of Black cooks of the time—has been made available to the public.
Admission free, donations appreciated.
